Telehealth
This can be a good option if transportation, illness, or other interruptions threaten to cancel an appointment. This can be done with or without video, though with video is typically more effective. Some clients prefer to use only telehealth. Whether it is a rare or frequent mode of therapy, the following suggestions can help it be successful:
-
Arrange enough time to center yourself and gather your thoughts
-
Check internet connections, battery level, and other potential glitches
-
Have a spot where your privacy can be ensured
-
Have a notepad and pen nearby to jot down what you would like to say or to remember
-
Have the device stable so the camera is not moving during the session
-
Be flexible in case there are any hiccups
-
Keep distractions to a minimum
-
Allow yourself time to process and decompress after the session
